Valentine’s Day is about doing something that you adore and making a moment in time, then sharing it with those that matter most to you. Food has always done that better than words alone. A shared meal is especially endearing, whether it’s made as a surprise or prepared together for that special occasion and served enthusiastically. This dinner was designed to feel meaningful and unfussy, the kind of meal that invites conversation and remains long after the plates are cleared.

This Valentine’s Day carries its own quiet emotion. A hard freeze swept through the garden and our lime tree, something so generous and cared for was suddenly at risk. Every piece of fruit had to be picked, knowing it might be the last harvest from a tree that we cherish. What it produced in that gathering really meant something: not just ingredients, but a reminder of resilience, of care and nurturing and of past delightful memories.

Each recipe in this dinner uses the lime in a slightly different way, bright, creamy, sweet, and sharp, so nothing is wasted and everything sings. From the first bite to the last sip, this meal is the story of that tree: of fragrance and of joy it brought us, and the endearing love that tied it to all of us.
So Happy Valentine’s Day, may yours be of fond memories, of sweet treats and of that special meal and recognition of all that makes us pause and slow a bit, savoring an unexpected treasure that binds us one to another forever.
