About Karen Hand Allen

Karen Hand Allen Headshot

Karen Hand Allen is a Registered Nurse at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston,

Texas and is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the state of Texas and certified as a Clinical

Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing, at

the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Ms. Hand holds a Bachelor of

Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and a

master’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Graduate School of

Biomedical Sciences.

Ms. Hand Allen is published in Government Video Magazine and Journal of Emergency

Nursing. She was awarded a three-year grant ($605,705), that focused on interdisciplinary

reenactment of 911 situations and provided CE to EMS, physicians, and nurses. She also served

as Faculty for the Texas Bioterrorism Continuing Education Project and provided Bioterrorism

CE credit for nurses, physicians, and EMS across the state of Texas. She established, developed,

and taught an Internship and Fellowship in Emergency Nursing. Ms. Hand Allen has delivered

hundreds of speeches, presentations and workshops. Ms. Hand Allen has been an Expert Witness in nursing for the past 25 years and has been named in Who’s Who among American Teachers. She was the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston’s School of Nursing Graduation Commencement Speaker, UTMB School of Nursing Speaker for the Nightingale Pledge, Generic Track Class Sponsor, and Commencement Pinning Ceremony Master of Ceremonies. She has also been recognized by the Emergency Nurses Association for the Emergency Nursing Foundation Award, and was inducted

into UTMB’s School of Nursing’s Hall of Fame.

 

Ms. Hand Allen has written her debut novel, Orphan Girl, a domestic suspense thriller, and is currently working on her second novel, a Historical Crime fiction.
